New Delhi: Karnataka is targeting an addition of renewable energy capacity of around 38 GW by FY35 as per its resource adequacy plan, almost half of that is expected to be commissioned by FY30, KP Rudrappaiah, managing director of Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd, told ET.

The state currently has installed capacity of 23 GW of renewable energy which forms nearly 68% of its energy source mix.

While there are challenges with power transmission and land acquisition, the state plans to involve all stakeholders in the execution of projects.

"We have to involve stakeholders and have to make them a part of the whole process," he said.

The state will also focus on battery energy storage for its renewable energy program, he added.

Karnataka is among the top five to deploy massive renewable energy capacities. The capacities also bring grid balancing and evacuation difficulties to the fore. For issues on congestion of transmission, the state has a plan to have an additional 35 GW of such lines for seamless power supply and green energy addition.

ET had reported that Karnataka, based on their green energy generation resource adequacy plan, will bid out the planned transmission capacity soon.

The state is also focusing on 'distributed renewable energy,' which will add to green generation and lighten the burden of transmission infrastructure.
