Jio-BP and Mahindra and Mahindra on Wednesday announced that they have signed an agreement to jointly create electric vehicles (EV) related products and services, including EV charging solutions.

The non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) also includes identifying common interests in low-carbon and regular fuels, as per a joint press statement from both the companies. Fuel and mobility player Jio-BP is a joint venture of Reliance Industries and UK’s BP.

Jio-BP’s existing stations will be used for charging Mahindra’s electric three-wheelers, cars, quadricycles and small commercial vehicles, as per the press statement. Developing battery swapping technology for electric three-wheelers is also part of the agreement.

Locations of the Mahindra Group and its partners will also be used for setting up of Jio-BP mobility stations and EV charging and swapping points.

Additionally, business models like mobility as a service (MaaS) and battery as a service (BaaS) will also be explored wherein Jio-BP may provide these services for vehicles made by the Mahindra Group.

Mahindra is one of the earliest Indian companies to start working on EVs and is one of the leading electric three-wheeler manufacturers today.
