New Delhi: India will need to mobilise USD 220 billion over the next four years to achieve its 500 GW renewable energy capacity target, with financial investors, private equity firms, pension funds and mutual funds expected to play a key role, a top official said on Wednesday.

The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, to be held from November 2- 5 at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, will serve as a key forum for seeking the 220 billion investment, the official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the summit.

"So, from the previous event till 2030, in different sectors, we require 220 billion dollars of investment. That includes deployment, manufacturing, transmission and green hydrogen. All of it together represents an estimated requirement of 220 billion dollars of investment. The idea is to identify a roadmap through which this resource could be mobilised over the next four to four-and-a-half years," Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi told reporters here.

Of the total projected investment till 2030, around USD 70 billion is expected to go into solar, while USD 40- 45 billion is expected to go into transmission infrastructure. This will be followed by USD 25- 30 billion in wind energy, USD 20- 25 billion in green hydrogen and USD 20 billion in energy storage.

Manufacturing is estimated to attract USD 15- 20 billion, while hydropower is likely to see investments of USD 12- 15 billion. Bioenergy is expected to receive USD 3- 5 billion during the period.
