"We have asked an independent expert... to check (on) what are the actual reasons and circumstances," Giridhar Aramane, secretary of ministry of road transport and highways, told TOI.

The government has taken cognisance of the increasing number of fire incidents involving electric two-wheelers.

Recently, a fire incident involving an Ola electric scooter was reported from Pune raising questions over safety of e-scooters.

The company had said that safety is top priority for them and it is investigating the incident.

"We have asked an independent expert... to check (on) what are the actual reasons and circumstances," Giridhar Aramane, secretary of ministry of road transport and highways, told TOI.

"We have already asked an independent expert to go and check the actual cause of these fires, and if there is any problem, we will ensure that they are taken care of," Aramane added.

Ola Electric had responded with a statement: ""We are aware of an incident in Pune that happened with one of our scooters in Pune and are investigating to understand the root cause and will share updates in the next few days."
