NEW DELHI: The government is reassessing the timing of a proposed 1-GW offshore wind tender after consultations with stakeholders indicated that developer interest may not be as strong as initially expected because of higher input cost, a senior government official said.

The tender documents for the 1-GW capacity wind project are ready, but feedback from industry participants suggests the market may not respond adequately at this stage.

The ministry of new and renewable energy has begun engaging with policy institutions and multilateral agencies to explore ways to improve investor participation.\

Global trends have shown relatively low interest in similar recently bid projects.

"Although we are ready for our tender for 1 GW, in our discussions with stakeholders they are suggesting that there may not be the same interest," the person said. This has prompted a closer examination of the timing and design of the tender to ensure that it attracts credible bidders and achieves the intended capacity addition.

A final decision on whether to launch the tender immediately or postpone it is expected after further consultations with industry stakeholders and financial institutions.

A scheme for small hydro projects, or projects less than 25 MW, is in the process which will help revive the projects.

As for the Green Energy Corridor phase-III, the government is moving the expenditure finance committee note, the person said. The plan is to bring the third phase of the greening of dedicated transmission lines.
