The project will include 600 MW of solar capacity along with a 550 MWh co-located battery energy storage system (BESS), aimed at enhancing reliability and efficiency of power supply, it said in a regulatory filing.

The company said the project is expected to be completed within 15 months from the award of the EPC contract and will be funded through a mix of debt and equity.
GAIL currently has an existing solar capacity of around 29 MW, which is operating at full utilisation. The proposed addition marks a significant scale-up in its renewable energy portfolio as part of its broader business growth strategy.
Clean energy push:
The move comes amid India’s accelerating push towards clean energy and energy transition, with a focus on expanding renewable capacity to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions.
