From buses to trucks, Tata Motors lands 3,400 EV orders across segments

The country's largest commercial vehicle maker said the orders span a broad spectrum of applications, ranging from e-commerce and logistics to heavy industries such as cement, steel and mining, reflecting growing confidence among fleet operators in the viability of electric mobility beyond pilot projects.
The latest order book comprises around 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-up trucks, nearly 900 electric trucks and approximately 500 electric buses.
These vehicles will cater to diverse operational needs, including FMCG and consumer durables distribution, intra-city freight movement, tarmac operations and both inter-city and urban passenger transport.
Electric commercial vehicles gain scale
The auto giant added in an exchange filing that it has been expanding its electric commercial vehicle portfolio to address varied operating requirements and duty cycles.Over the past year, the company has rolled out a new generation of electric vehicles across segments, strengthening its presence from last-mile delivery to heavy-duty freight transportation.
Its small commercial vehicle portfolio includes the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV and Intra EV, which are increasingly being used for last-mile and intra-city deliveries. In the medium and heavy commercial vehicle category, the company offers the Ultra EV range in the 7-12 tonne segment, alongside the Prima EV 55-tonne tractor and Prima EV 28-tonne tipper designed for demanding industrial operations.
On the passenger mobility front, Tata Motors has expanded its electric bus offerings with the Starbus EV and Ultra EV buses, catering to both urban and inter-city transport requirements.
Tata Motors currently has more than 3,800 electric buses operating across several Indian cities, which together have clocked over 550 million kilometres.
In the small commercial vehicle segment, more than 17,000 Tata electric SCVs are already operating across the country.
