New Delhi: Electric vehicle retail sales in India reached an all-time high of 3,06,220 units in June, growing at 63 per cent over the same month last year, taking overall EV penetration to over 12 per cent for the first time, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations said on Tuesday.

The growth in EV sales was led by the two-wheeler segment at 1,93,735 units in June as against 1,10,719 units in the same month last year, up 74.98 per cent, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) said in a statement.

Electric passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales jumped over two-fold at 31,823 units last month as against 15,318 units in June 2025, it added.

The three-wheeler electric segment saw total retail of 77,448 units as against 60,802 units in the same month last year, up 27.38 per cent, it added.

Electric commercial vehicle (CV) retail stood at 3,214 units last month as compared to 1,219 units in June last year, up 163.7 per cent, FADA said.

Commenting on the EV retail sales, FADA President C S Vigneshwar said, "June 2026 was a defining month in India's mobility transition. The industry retailed 3,06,220 electric vehicles - an all-time high in FADA's records and nearly 63 per cent higher than a year ago."

The growth happened despite the broader market navigating a delayed monsoon and a seasonally lean patch, he said, adding, "encouragingly, this was not a single-category story".

Electric PVs and electric CVs both delivered their best-ever month, Vigneshwar noted.

"With overall EV penetration crossing 12 per cent for the first time -- led by three-wheelers, where over 64 per cent of retail is now electric, and two-wheelers, now in double digits at 10.6 per cent -- electrification has moved decisively from the margins to the mainstream of Indian auto retail," Vigneshwar said.

What makes this transition durable is its breadth and its ownership, he added.

"Legacy manufacturers now lead the electric two-wheeler space, established players are scaling electric cars and commercial vehicles, and new entrants - both Indian and global - are choosing India as a priority market," Vigneshwar said.

He termed it as "the India growth story expressing itself in clean, self-reliant mobility -- rising aspiration, widening affordability, and a customer increasingly ready to go electric wherever the product, the charging ecosystem and the economics come together".
