Electric vehicles made up 11.2% of India’s vehicle sales in October, their lowest share since May. The dip, however, is unlikely to change the bigger picture.

EVs accounted for 10.7% of sales so far this year, up from 8% in 2025, putting 2026 on track to be the first year in which electrics cross the double-digit mark. Odisha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh posted the sharpest gains, an ET analysis of official registration data shows.

Businesses are also switching to electric vehicles much faster than individuals and government bodies. However, three-wheelers continue to drive most of the adoption.
