Delhi Cabinet approves revised solar policy, targets free 3 KW panels for 2.30 lakh consumers

The Delhi Cabinet has approved a revised solar policy under which households with monthly electricity consumption of 400 units or above will be eligible for free installation of 3 KW rooftop solar panels, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday.

The Delhi government has set a target to install the panels in approximately 2.30 lakh households across the city by March 2027, Gupta said, adding that the move is aimed at reducing electricity bills and supporting installation costs for households that could not afford the upfront expense.

"Our target is not only to reduce people's electricity bills but also to support the installation cost of solar panels. The government will provide free rooftop solar panels to all households with monthly electricity consumption of 400 units or above. The facility will benefit people who could not install rooftop solar panels earlier due to high upfront cost," Gupta said at a press conference.


"This is a big announcement for our government's 'Green Delhi' initiative," she said.

Currently, around 10,000 buildings in Delhi have solar energy generation capabilities, most of which are government buildings, Gupta added.
