Union Cabinet approves PLI scheme for Solar PV modules

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme on ‘National programme on High Efficiency Solar PV Modules’ for achieving manufacturing capacity of Giga Watt (GW) scale in high efficiency Solar PV modules.

The decision is aimed towards building an ecosystem for manufacturing high efficiency Solar PV modules, said Union Minister Anurag Thakur while addressing a press conference today.

A grant worth Rs 19,500 crore has been passed by the government for the manufacturing project. About 65,000 MW per year manufacturing capacity of fully and partially integrated, solar PV modules will be installed un der the project.


"It is likely to generate employment opportunities for nearly 1,95,000 people directly and 7,80,000 people indirectly," said Thakur.
