Bengaluru-based STEER World bags Rs 60 crore export order for lithium-ion battery separator project in China
Bengaluru-based STEER World secured a significant export order valued at Rs 60 crore. This order is for a lithium-ion battery separator manufacturing project located in China. The company's advanced processing technology was chosen after a rigorou...
The company said it was selected by a South Korean battery separator technology supplier and system integrator to supply its Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) processing technology for a project at one of China's top five battery separator manufacturers.
The order follows a nine-month technical evaluation and application development programme, during which STEER's Fractional Geometry Technology (FGT) was assessed against other processing technologies. The project is expected to be commissioned in FY27, said the company in a statement.
"Securing this project reflects our technology and engineering capabilities. Following a nine-month evaluation programme, the Korean technology partner selected STEER as part of its offering for one of China's top five battery separator manufacturers," said Nitin Gupta, executive director, STEER Advanced Manufacturing, said in the statement.
The company said the current order is valued at around Rs 60 crore and is expected to lead to additional business worth Rs 35-40 crore through aftermarket products, process upgrades, spare parts, technical services and lifecycle support. The total lifetime value of the engagement is estimated at about Rs 100 crore.
China accounts for a large share of global lithium-ion battery manufacturing capacity. The company said demand for battery manufacturing technologies is increasing as investments in electric vehicles, battery manufacturing facilities and energy storage systems continue.
Battery separators are used to separate the anode and cathode in lithium-ion batteries and play a role in battery safety and performance. STEER said its processing technology is designed to improve the manufacture of materials used in battery separators, helping reduce defects and improve production consistency.
The company said its processing technologies are used across battery applications, including cathode materials, anode materials, battery separators and electrolyte-related formulations.
