Electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy is said to be working on a new electric scooter with a 156-kilometre range.
News about the scooter surfaced after a homologation document for the so-called Ather 450S HR surfaced on the web. Many are assuming the term HR stands for High Range.
As per the leaked document, the Ather 450S will have a big 3.76kWh battery pack which will offer 156 km of certified range.
It is to be noted that Ather currently offers two electric scooters: the Ather 450X and the Ather 450S. The 450X comes in 2.9 and 3.7 kWh battery versions, while the 450S, with its 3.04 kWh battery, offers a 90 km range. So the new scooter, the 450S HR, will have the highest range in the Ather lineup if it comes out as per the document.
Meanwhile, the leaked document suggests that the new EV will offer a peak output of 5.4 kW with a top speed of 80 km per hour. It will also have four riding modes: Eco, SmartEco, Ride, and Sport.
Recently, Ather Energy said that its losses surged more than 2.5 times in the financial year 2022–23. The EV startup reported a loss of Rs 864.5 crore in FY23, against a loss of Rs 344.1 crore in FY22. Ather’s total expenses more than tripled to Rs 2,670.6 crore from Rs 757.9 crore in FY22, despite strong sales.
The surge in losses was reported even after the firm’s revenue from operations grew 4.3 times to reach Rs 1,784 crore during the fiscal year ending March 2023.
The company spent Rs 1.5 to earn every Rs 1 from operations in FY23, while EBITDA margin improved to -38.3 percent, according to reports.
Ather said it plans to use the funds for a new product launch and the expansion of its charging infrastructure and retail network.
Ather recently expanded its product portfolio with 2.9 kWh and 3.7 kWh battery options in the flagship 450X as well as an entry-level product, the 450S, to address a larger segment of the two-wheeler market.
Founded in 2013 by IIT Madras alumni Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather is backed by Hero MotoCorp, GIC, NIIF, Sachin Bansal, and Tiger Global.
