MUMBAI: Actor Arjun Rampal, who plays a film director in Rituparno Ghosh's 'The Last Lear' on Wednesday said that working on the film was a "refreshing change".

"All the mainstream actors myself, Bachchan, Preity Zinta gave ourselves to a non-commercial director as we believed in the unusual script. Besides, the film being in English language was another novelty," Arjun told media.

He said, "We did the film out of passion and love for doing it. We were not thinking whether we are making a blockbuster film or doing a promotional video. We were true to ourselves and brave enough to do the film."

Arjun said he did not want to get into the debate of commercial versus art movies. "Every film has an audience. All kind of genre can co-exist with each other. This gives actors an opportunity to explore different kinds of genre and grow as actors," he added.

Arjun did not think that the film's theatrical release has been delayed. 'The Last Lear' releases on September 12.
"I was shooting for 'Om Shanti Om' and 'The Last Lear' simultaneously.

After the film's completion, it was screened at different festivals all across the globe in the last one year. The audience gave a standing ovation to the film. It was such an overwhelming response," he said.

"For the theatre going audience, 'The Last Lear' is a fresh film and delay on over a year in its theatrical release will not affect its box office performance," he added.
