Warner Music Group to open Bengaluru technology hub

Warner Music Group (WMG) is expanding its global technology operations in India with the opening of a new technology hub in Bengaluru next month, as the music company steps up investments in engineering, data infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

The Bengaluru facility will support WMG’s global technology operations, with teams working on music distribution, data infrastructure and products, including core data pipelines as well as audience and marketing data products. The hub will also focus on applying AI and other emerging technologies to engineering initiatives.

Mahesh Rao, WMG’s Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead for India, is leading the expansion. He is responsible for the company’s engineering strategy, organizational design, budgets and operating model in India and reports to Chief Technology Officer Leho Nigul, who is based in Toronto.


Rao joined WMG after working at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development.

The company said the Bengaluru operation builds on foundations established by its Indian technology team over the past year. Recruitment is currently underway across multiple technology disciplines ahead of the facility’s official opening.

Nigul said Bengaluru would play a central role in WMG’s global engineering strategy rather than simply serve as an extension of its existing technology operations.

“We’re investing heavily in local leadership, modern tech stacks, and globally competitive compensation to attract engineers who want to solve complex, high-throughput systems problems at the intersection of music and AI,” he said.

The expansion adds to WMG’s broader presence in India. The company established its India operations six years ago, with Mumbai serving as its headquarters.

Jay Mehta, Managing Director of Warner Music India, said the company sees significant opportunities in India, citing both the country’s creative ecosystem and its technology talent.

“I’m delighted that Mahesh is spearheading our expansion in Bengaluru,” Mehta said.
