UTV, Virgin comics tie-up to create superhero franchises

UTV Motion Pictures on Friday announced a tie-up with Virgin Comics to create four original superhero franchises which will be leveraged across publishing, film, animation and gaming.

MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures on Friday announced a tie-up with Virgin Comics to create four original superhero franchises which will be leveraged across publishing, film, animation and gaming.

"In the same way the West created an age of heroes wearing capes and tights, our goal with UTV Motion Pictures is to redefine the archetype of the superhero and infuse a new sensibility that relates to today's Indian youth," Sharad Devarajan, CEO, Virgin Comics, was quoted as saying in a UTV release.

The new stories which will be co-created and co-owned by Virgin and UTV Motion Pictures would initially be released as graphic novels to be published worldwide by Virgin, the release said.

The first book would be released by the end of 2007. The tie-up would be through UTV's movie production brand, SpotBoy.
