News broadcaster TV Today Network is taking its channel distribution in-house following the merger of Star India, its current distributor, with Viacom18 to form Jio Star.

Star India has been distributing TV Today channels, which include Aaj Tak and India Today, since 2018.

The new entity, Jio Star, is majority-owned by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), which also operates Network18, a direct competitor of TV Today in the TV news segment.

While TV Today Network already managed carriage—a process involving fees paid to distributors for securing channel placement—it will now oversee the entire distribution process independently.

Meanwhile, the Network18 TV news channels will continue to be distributed by IndiaCast, which is now part of Jio Star. IndiaCast was earlier an equal JV between Viacom18 and TV18, which has merged with Network18.

Both Jio Star and TV Today Network declined to comment.
