TN seeks cable TV licence from govt

Tamil Nadu seeks licence from Centre to start a cable TV network in the state.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday decided to seek a licence from the Centre to start a cable TV network in the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, an official release said.

It was also decided that another meeting would be held on August 11 to deliberate on steps needed for starting the network, which would be owned by the state government.

Electricity Minister N Veerasamy, Chief Secretary L K Tripathi and other officials participated in the meeting.

The ruling DMK's key ally PMK has been pressing the government to start a network of its own to check the rising prices of cable TV services.
