THRISSUR: Bangladeshi director Yasmin Kabir will inaugurate the international film festival starting here on Thursday.
Briefing reporters about the four-day festival, its organising committee's executive director, Father Benny Benedict, said over 100 movies would be exhibited during the event, the theme for which would be "Earth".
About 30 films from across the globe on issues like bio- diversity, land rights, people's struggles and alternative strategies and experiments would be screened, he said.
The main highlight of the event will be the "village festival" at nearby Pananchery.
From May 11, screenings will be organised at different centres of the Pananchery panchayat and filmmakers and activists will interact with local people.
The festival will begin with a national conference and session that will explore ecological, economical and socio-cultural issues concerning the earth in the context of globalisation, Benedict said.
Besides Kabir, eminent film personalities like Jean Gabriel Periot of France, Silvio Tendler and Anand Patwardhan will participate in the festival.
