Thomson acquires Paprikaas Animation stake
Thomson, the 5.4 billion euro digital video technologies major has acquired controlling majority of Bangalore-based Paprikaas Animation Studios.
The acquisition was done through its Tehnicolour Content Services business which provides various content activity to media and entertainment sectors.
Thomson, through this buyout would be looking sourcing its requirements for the global market through Paprikaas which has around 150 people.
Mr Thierry Pasquet, VP, Thomson India said that the acquisition would be a strategic fit to address the offshore requirements first and later look into the Indian market.
The Indian animation industry was estimated to be around $354 million in 2006 and growing at 25% annually, while the gaming industry is of the size of $47.7 million.
