CHENNAI: Sun Pictures, the movie arm of Kalanithi Maran's Sun TV Network, has opted out of the marketing and distribution Vikram-starrer ‘Rajapattai.'

Sembian Sivakumar, who heads Sun Pictures, tweeted on Thursday: “PVP releasing Rajapattai, Best Wishes to Rajapattai team.”

Sun Pictures had bought the rights for Rajapattati, which is produced by PVP Cinemas. Sun officials couldn't be reached for their comments.

An industry source said, “They might have found it difficult to find distributors and opted out of the movie." Recently, some theatre owners had protested against Sun Pictures, demanding it repay them deposit refunds for four movies including the Rajini-starrer Endhiran.

“Now PVP cinemas have to find a new distributor or they should go ahead and market the movie themselves,” the source added.

Rajapattai is a story that revolves around the issue of land grabbing. The movie is estimated to be around Rs 40 crore, the most expensive Vikram movie till date.
