Star Sports, FanCode secure India rights for India–Japan T20I

Star Sports Network has secured the exclusive India television rights and FanCode the exclusive India streaming rights for the one-off men’s T20I between India and Japan, rights holder ITW Universe said.

The match will be played on September 22 at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi, Japan, and will be the first T20I meeting between the senior men’s teams of the two countries. It is scheduled to start at 9:30 am IST (1 pm local time).

ITW Universe holds the global sports production, broadcast distribution and commercial marketing rights for the match and is overseeing its international distribution and commercialisation.


“The continued interest in the global window shows this historic encounter can travel well beyond traditional cricket markets,” ITW Universe co-founder Bhairav Shanth said.

FanCode CEO and co-founder Yannick Colaco said the platform was pleased to bring the match to fans in India, while Prashant Khanna, head of sports rights and innovation at JioStar, said JioStar was partnering with ITW Universe to bring the fixture to viewers across its linear platforms.

The match is being organised by the Japan Cricket Association as part of its ‘Sport 75’ initiative, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Japan. It is being held alongside the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

The Japan Cricket Association is expanding capacity at the Sano International Cricket Ground for the match.
