The partnership supports India’s digital economy by encouraging cashless transactions and changing how audiences pay at the movies. Patrons can use their Android, NFC-enabled smartphones to make tap-to-pay purchases with Visa cards at PVR Inox cinemas.
The collaboration brings benefits to Visa credit and debit cardholders in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune. Customers who spend Rs 1,000 or more on tickets at the box office using Visa’s mobile tap-to-pay will receive a popcorn and Pepsi combo.
They can also get a 20% discount—capped at Rs 500—on food and beverage purchases made through Visa tap-to-pay. For transactions of Rs 2,000 or more on food and beverages, a discount of Rs 200 will be offered.
“At PVR Inox, we are committed to enhancing every aspect of the movie-going experience, and seamless, secure transactions are a key part of that journey,” said Gautam Dutta, CEO – Revenue & Operations, PVR Inox.
To access these offers, customers must load their Visa cards onto one of the supported wallets—Samsung Wallet (for Samsung devices), Google Pay, CRED, HDFC PayZapp, the SBI Card app or ICICI iMobile. Once set up, users can tap their smartphones at terminals to complete transactions.
“We are thrilled to partner with PVR Inox to promote mobile-based contactless transactions to millions of moviegoers across India,” said Ramakrishnan Gopalan, Head of Products & Solutions, India and South Asia, Visa.
“As consumers seek more mobile-first experiences, this collaboration enhances both the convenience and speed of payments—allowing them to quickly purchase refreshments during intervals or before the film begins. With Visa’s global leadership in contactless technology and PVR Inox’s dominance in entertainment, we are redefining the movie-going experience for a mobile-first audience.”
To increase awareness, PVR Inox will display promotional material across its cinemas, including tent cards at box offices and F&B counters, plasma screens and point-of-sale displays. The campaign, run by Publicis OOH, aims to communicate the offers and encourage use of mobile tap-to-pay.
