Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is planning to promote entertainment-based tourism projects in a big way in the Gorai-Manori belt of suburban Mumbai.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is planning to promote entertainment-based tourism projects in a big way in the Gorai-Manori belt of suburban Mumbai.

Four plots have been opened up for developing projects like Marina, Big Wheel, Mangrove Park, Spa, Theme Park and golf club.

"We have invited bids to develop entertainment-based tourism projects in the Gorai-Manori belt of suburban Mumbai" Managing Director of MTDC Bhushan Gagrani told the media.

Earlier, the government had planned to sign an MoU with Esselworld, a popular entertainment park in Gorai, to set up an entertainment hub in the area but the move was scrapped because of opposition from locals.

Even the Essel Group informed the government that they were not interested in going ahead with the project.

Gagrani said the MTDC-owned plots have been lying vacant for several years and will be given to the winning bidder for development on a 30-year lease period.
