NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested the Ministry of Finance to lower the custom tariffs on the import of jumbo rolls required for making movies, Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
In a reply, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi said in order to understand the initiatives needed for the further growth of the film industry, the ministry has constituted five core groups to look into different aspects including taxation and duties.
The reports of these groups are under examination in the ministry, Dasmunsi said.
The key reasons behind the low box office collections are low admission prices, low occupancy level in theatres, low capital/investment level in the number of film prints and ineffective marketing, the minister said.
Cameras for shooting, sound equipment and films roles are imported by the film industry, he added.
