JioHotstar has launched its streaming services in Nepal through a collaboration with the local platform DGO. This partnership allows viewers to access a variety of Indian films, series, and live international sports. Subscriptions are available in...
With this partnership, viewers in Nepal will be able to watch JioHotstar's films, original series, television programmes, reality shows and children's content through a dedicated section on DGO. Subscriptions will be available under DGO's Mobile and Plus plans, with introductory prices starting at NPR 249 a month.
The launch catalogue includes Bollywood films such as Bhediya, 12th Fail, Kesari Chapter 2, Super 30 and Welcome to the Jungle. Viewers will also get access to JioHotstar Originals, including Hunkkaar, Pritam & Pedro, Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot, Special Ops and Chiraiya.
Regional titles such as Bethlehem Kudumba Unit and Thudakkam will be available in Hindi, alongside popular television and reality shows including Bigg Boss, Koffee with Karan and India Ka Top 1 Percent.
DGO's Mobile plan is priced at NPR 249 for a month, NPR 699 for three months and NPR 2,499 for a year. The Plus plan costs NPR 399 for a month, NPR 899 for three months and NPR 2,699 annually.
Users can subscribe through DGO's website, http://www.watchdgo.com, or its app, which is available on iOS, Android, Android TV and smart TVs.
The JioHotstar catalogue will sit alongside DGO's existing library of Nepali films and shows. The platform also plans to add a new Nepali film every week.
Sports fans will have access to live international events, including LaLiga, MotoGP and the Carabao Cup, as part of their existing subscriptions, without having to pay separately.
“JioHotstar’s international expansion is bringing together the scale of what we have created in India and the demand for Indian entertainment overseas. Nepal is an important part of that journey, with audiences who have followed our films, television shows and talent for generations,” said Amit Malhotra, head of international business at JioStar.
“With DGO, we can give that audience a much broader offering, combining JioHotstar’s entertainment with the convenience of a local platform. We see considerable scope in Nepal to build on this existing relationship and make JioHotstar part of everyday viewing across households,” he added.
DGO chief executive officer Roshan Niraula described the partnership as a milestone for the platform and Nepal's entertainment industry. He said the collaboration would bring Indian entertainment, fresh Nepali films and international sports under one subscription.
The Nepal launch is the latest step in JioHotstar's push into overseas markets. The platform has already expanded into the UK, Canada and Singapore and recently entered the MENA region through a partnership with STARZPLAY.
Rather than following a single model across markets, JioHotstar is looking to work with local platforms and adapt its offerings to regional audiences.
In Nepal, where Indian films and television shows already have an established following, the partnership gives JioHotstar a way to reach viewers through an existing local service while offering a mix of Indian entertainment, Nepali content and international sports.
