Jumbo has Akshay Kumar doing voiceover and it got a decent opening in spite of being pitted against the heavyweight Ghajini.
In many cities, the film has also managed to earn better revenues than Roadside Romeo, released in October. Significantly, Jumbo was released at only half the number of screens compared with Roadside Romeo.
Animation films are still at a nascent stage in India. Being low-grossers, single-screen theatres shy away from them while multiplexes have two or three shows a day. So Ghajini is being screened at most single-screen theatres across the country while multiplexes have 10-15 shows a day of this much-hyped film.
Jumbo is being shown only at multiplexes with a maximum of four shows a day. In Mumbai, Roadside Romeo ran 126 shows daily while Jumbo has 64 shows daily.
