Indian film festival to be held in Myanmar
An Indian film festival will be held in Myanmar's two largest cities next February to promote cultural exchange.
The film festival, which is the third since 2005, will take place at the Naypyitaw Cinema in Yangon from Feb 1 to 10 and the Myoma Cinema in Mandalay from Feb 15 to 24, said the Weekly Eleven news journal, adding that the films to be screened in Myanmar are under selection.
Myanmar has been providing opportunities for domestic audiences to get more access to foreign movies from different continents by sponsoring foreign film festivals in the country in recent years which included Chinese, Japanese and South Korean packages.
Early this month, the first film festival of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) was held in Yangon to mark the association's 40th anniversary, in which seven Asean member nations - Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam - out of the 10 participated.
Films representing each of the seven Asean members were screened during the four-day festival.
This year in June, a European film festival was held in Yangon to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the EU, bringing in films produced in Italy, England, Germany and France.
