India, Lanka to co-produce Sinhala film
National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka has entered into an agreement with India's Gemini Film Corporation to co-produce a Sinhala film.
"This is a historic occasion and Sri Lanka would immensely benefit from the move as it creates a platform to gain from India's expertise in the film industry," Minister of Cultural Affairs Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday.
The film to be directed by Channa Perera will be dubbed in Tamil and Telugu.
This will showcase local talent as the film will be screened in India giving our artistes an opportunity to display their talents, he said.
The NFCSL is working towards the development of country's film industry and action has been taken to encourage newcomers to the field by providing incentives, its chairman Ashoka Serasinghe said.
"This is the first time that one of our films will be screened in a foreign country and it will motivate others to further co-produce films with other countries," he said.
Gemini Company Director Ravi Shankar Prasad, its Financial Consultant Wijayan Mukundan and a number of local artistes were also present on the occasion, the Island Newspaper reported.
