Pratilipi on Thursday launched Double Tap Films, positioning it as India’s first data-backed microdrama studio as it looks to tap into the fast-growing short-form video segment.

The studio will produce vertical-first microdramas built on audience insights drawn from Pratilipi’s ecosystem of over 20 million stories, aligning content with mobile-first consumption trends.

Double Tap Films will leverage a pipeline of user-validated intellectual property from Pratilipi’s network of over 2 million authors, whose stories are read more than 800 million times each month. This allows the studio to identify high-engagement narratives even before production begins.

"India has always been a country of storytellers. What has changed is the screen. The mobile phone is now the primary relationship that hundreds of millions of Indians have with narrative forms, and Double Tap Films exists to define what great storytelling looks like within it," said Ranjeet Pratap Singh, Co-Founder & CEO, Pratilipi.

Its debut slate includes titles such as Avnika Ki Shaadi, Apavitra, Aag Se Takkar and Raavan, among others, across languages including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada and Gujarati.

Content will be distributed across platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, MX Player and Hungama OTT, along with microdrama-focused apps like Fatafat, Reelies and DramaWave.

The company said its model follows a “format lab to franchise pipeline”, using microdramas to test stories that can scale across OTT, gaming and international markets.

Double Tap Films aims to position itself as a content-first studio in this space, focusing on high-frequency, short-duration storytelling tailored for mobile screens.
