CHENNAI: Music Broadcast Private limited, which runs RadioCity FM stations, has bagged the licences to open FM Radio stations in 16 cities during the "Phase two FM Expansion," a top company official said on Monday.

All these stations would be commissioned by March next, Apruva Purohit, CEO of the Radio City told reporters, while launching the transmission of Radio City in Chennai.

FM radio penetration is still low compared to television in the country. While FM penetration was just 30 per cent, that too in metropolitan cities,TV penetration was as high as 70 per cent.

Though advertising market was Rs 10,000 crore a year in the country, only Rs 250 crore went to the broadcasting sector. All India Radio alone bagged advertisements to the tune of Rs 100 crore a year, leaving the rest to all the private FM operators, she said.

With the Centre planning a big expansion of FM network, the scope for market growth was very large, she said.
