MUMBAI: Set will continue to distribute Ten Sports, which was cut in April ’05, on to the One Alliance platform of Sony Entertainment Television and Discovery, until ’08. The development is bad news for Ten Sports and Sony.

The contract for Ten Sports’ cricket properties in Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan comes to an end in ’08 and the firm wanted to team up with a big partner ahead of that so that it can bid for bigger cricket properties.

Ten Sports continues to be an attractive proposition, given the fact that it has the best production facilities, an established brand name as well as cricket properties that are valid till ’08, media experts pointed out.

Sony’s telecast of the ICC tournaments also ends with the World Cup ’07 next year. The firm has no other cricket properties and would have loved to have Ten Sports’ rights even if it is just for two years.
