Centre to review Cinematography Act: Manish Tewari

Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to set up a committee to review the provisions of the existing Cinematography Act.

LUDHIANA: Keeping the view the sensitivity and interests of film-makers and producers, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to set up a committee to review the provisions of the existing Cinematography Act.

Disclosing this here today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said that the composition of the committee and its terms of reference would be declared soon.

Replying to a query by the reporters here on the row over Kamal Hassan starrer 'Vishawroopam', the minister said that the ban on the trilingual movie by the Tamil Nadu government was "not appropriate".

He said that once any movie is cleared by the Censor Board, which is duly constituted by the Central Government, no other agency can ban the movie suo-motto.

Later addressing a gathering at Kila Raipur on the second day of Kila Raipur Sports Festival, he said that the UPA government is committed to strengthening of infrastructure of rural sports in the country.

He promised the organisers that the scope and infrastructure of Kila Raipur Sports will be further widened and strengthened in future.

The three-day festival attracts more than 4,000 sports men and women in both recognised and traditional sports.
