Anand Mahindra invests in Rohit Khattar's Cinestaan

A new entertainment company was launched by Rohit Khattar, with major investment by industrialist Anand Mahindra, to produce films and TV content.

NEW DELHI: The company, launched by entrepreneur Rohit Khattar, plans to produce films and also foray into television and Internet services and has signed a three-film agreement with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ROMP Pictures.

“I am delighted to announce the launch of Cinestaan Entertainment in partnership with Anand Mahindra. We share a common vision and similar tastes in story-telling which shall, we hope, manifest in some good films,” said Khattar, who is the chairman of Old World Hospitality that operates performing arts centre Habitat World in Delhi, Hotel Broadway and restaurants Chor Bizzare and The All American Diner.

“Cinestaan is committed to preserving the rich legacy of our cinema heritage. We are working on several initiatives including an oral histories television project that shall celebrate the memories and contributions of our screen legends.

To begin our film slate with a prodigal talent like Rakeysh Mehra is an incredible high and we are excited about developing these films with him. Cinestaan shall announce some more projects soon,” Khattar said.

Cinestaan Film Company’s first film with ROMP Pictures will be Rakeysh Mehra-directed ‘Mirziya’ while the second will be ‘FanneyKhan’, an official remake of an Oscar-nominated film to be directed by Nitin Kakkar.

The third film, which has not been named yet, will also be directed by Mehra, who is a threetime National Award winner and BAFTA-nominated film-maker.
