A stranger among friends

Sometimes living in a metro makes you feel like a stranger when you meet your friends from a small town.

Sometimes living in a metro makes you feel like a stranger when you meet your friends from a small town. That’s what happens in a movie recommended by Sanjay Gupta, producer and director of movies like Kaante and Zinda. He recommends Garden State made by an independent director Zach Braff for this weekend . The movie released in 2004, won ten awards and got 24 nominations.

This movie feels so real, its story and characters are so believable, which is what drew me to it. A young boy who belongs to a small town called Garden State, New Jersey and is now settled in LA, comes back home when his mother passes away. He meets his friends after years and he feels like a stranger among them. Many of us who have come from a small town to a big city in search of opportunities can empathise with the protagonist, when we come across a similar situation. Apart from the story the sound track of the movie is also outstanding.

My favorite scene in the movie is when the father and son meet each other. This is their first meeting after his mother has passed away and they have not kept in touch with each other over the years, so when they meet there is a certain degree of alienation between them. The reason it will draw the audience is the story telling technique of the movie.
