2012, distributed by Sony Pictures, has got the second biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India.

MUMBAI: 2012, distributed by Sony Pictures, has got the second biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India. The disaster epic grossed Rs 19.15 crore at the Indian box office second only to another Sony Pictures’ release Spider-Man 3.

The superhero film grossed Rs 19.17 crore in 2007 in its opening weekend. The Bond film Quantum of Solace got the third biggest opening for a Hollywood film in India grossing Rs 17 crore when it released in 2008.

2012 released across the world on November 13. At the worldwide box-office , the film has grossed approximately Rs 1,110 crore in its opening weekend. In India, the film released simultaneously in four languages including English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across 715 screens with 676 prints.

Kercy Daruwala, managing director , Sony Pictures India said, “The film has performed exceedingly well in both metros as well as smaller centres appealing to a large range of audiences, including families who are drawn to the personal family storyline.”
