Work resumes at Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar project
Work has resumed at Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar project after violence had broken out between workers and company security on Monday, 23 June.
In a statement to the media, Tata Steel said, “work has resumed from today, 26 June 2014, at our Kalinganagar plant site following an amicable meeting held on 25 June 2014 between the senior management of Tata Steel and representatives of the workers in the presence of district administration.”
Scuffle between protesting contract employees working on the 3mt greenfield steel plant and security had led to 17 people being injured. The company had said “unprovoked agitation by a group of contract workers” had led to the security staff “firing in the air to ward off the attacking workers, in which nobody
was hurt.“
