Vizag Steel Plant May sales touch Rs 950 crore

A marketing push saw value added products rise 45%, while project sales grew 47%.

DELHI: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam's Vishakapatnam Steel Plant sold Rs 950 crore worth of long steel products in May, a record sale over the past 40 years.

In a statement issued on Saturday, RINL said that after a slow year in 2010-11, April-May volumes this year stood at 3.26 lakh tons of saleable steel, an 88% growth over the corresponding period last year. With Rs 67-crore earned from by-products such as ammonium sulfate and coal chemicals, the total sales translated into Rs 1,465 crore revenue, nearly double that of April-May 2010. A marketing push saw value added products rise 45%, while project sales grew 47%.
