VSP chairman and managing director A P Choudhary said the works related to the power plant were being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 677 crores, a release issued here said.
It is a unique power plant as it utilises 100 per cent blast furnace gas for power generation, the release said adding that this also makes the new power plant environment friendly and free of pollution.
VSP is planning to add another 120 MW of power to the present capacity by using NEDO technology and commissioning of Turbo generator-5 shortly, taking the total power generation capacity to around 400 MW, Choudhary said.
The CMD also stressed on the need for timely completion of the project by 2013 while taking all safety precautions and practices, so as to minimise dependency on the grid, while reducing the pollution and carbon consumption, the release added.
