Conglomerate Vedanta Ltd has appointed Rajiv Kumar as the chief executive officer for its aluminium business. The position had been vacant since John Slaven quit the post in September last year.

The development comes ahead of the demerger of Vedanta which is expected to see the aluminium business being listed as an independent entity.

Kumar's appointment is for three years beginning March 26. He was earlier with Tata Steel as vice president, operations, at Kalinganagar.

Apart from leading the overall strategy for the aluminium business, Kumar will focus on the development of strategic alliances and innovation and digitalisation in the business. "His leadership will be instrumental in unlocking long-term value for shareholders and other stakeholders," Vedanta said in an exchange filing.
