Tata Steel to reduce carbon dioxide emission to 1.5 t/tls: MD

Tata Steel has set a target of reducing carbon dioxide emission from its Jamshedpur plant to 1.5 per tonne of liquid steel by 2012 from the present figure of 1.8, company's Managing Director B Muthuraman said on Friday.

NEW DELHI: Tata Steel has set a target of reducing carbon dioxide emission from its Jamshedpur plant to 1.5 per tonne of liquid steel by 2012 from the present figure of 1.8, company's Managing Director B Muthuraman said on Friday.

Launching a campaign 'Accelerated Drive for Carbon Dioxide Reduction' on the occasion of World Environment Day in Jamshedpur, Muthuraman underlined the need for preserving environment and adopting energy conservation methods.

"We must take definitive steps to reduce carbon dioxide and energy consumption," he said.

To mark the occasion, Muthuraman inaugurated a new technology called Telepresence, which will help the company organise face-to-face meeting experience with people across the world.

Studios with Telepresence suite have been set up in millbank, Jamshedpur and Mumbai, a company statement said.
