Tata Steel records one million injury-free man hours

Leading Indian steel producer – Tata Steel – has achieved one million injury-free man hours at their fabrication yard for the 12-million-tonne Kalinga Nagar steel complex in Orissa’s Jajpur district.

BHUBANESWAR: Leading Indian steel producer – Tata Steel – has achieved one million injury-free man hours at their fabrication yard for the 12-million-tonne Kalinga Nagar steel complex in Orissa’s Jajpur district.

The rare feat was accomplished on October 8, 2009, a Tata Steel release issued here on Tuesday said.

The Rs 18,000-crore mega integrated steel plant requires 2.50 lakh tons of structural work.

Tata Steel initiated a Fabrication and Structural Yard (FSY) to pre-fabricate large delivery cycle oriented steel structural with intricate shapes, complex massive sizes and weight structural in collaboration with L&T near Kalinga Nagar Steel Complex. The infrastructure was created with an investment of over Rs 7 crore with power supply, weigh bridge, high mast towers.

L&T has bought in heavy machineries like gantry cranes, mobile cranes, welding generators, grinding and drilling equipments.

Mr B K Singh, vice president of Orissa steel project has congratulated the Tata Steel members for obtaining the “rare recognition” with “general safety resources” provided to them.

“You must in future also raise your bar and study your work and ensure that you can foresee the safety requirement and take adequate action more than what is been provided to you as general safety resources,” Mr Singh told the employees engaged at fabrication yard.
