Tata Steel Q2 steel output up 18% to 2.2 million tonne

NEW DELHI: Tata Steel has achieved sales of 2.03 million tonnes (mt) in the quarter ended September 2013, up 17% compared to 1.73 mt of steel sold in the same period last year. The company's half yearly sales between April-September 2013 were up 22% to 4.04 mt in FY14 against 3.3 mt in the same period last year. Out of this, the company said it had recorded its best ever sales of flat products in H1 at 2.66 mt beating the previous best of 2.59 mt in H2 of FY13. The company also recorded the best ever half yearly production of saleable steel in flat products at 2.81 mt. This was higher than the previous best recorded at 2.72 mt in second half of FY13.

Tata Steel's production of hot metal crossed 2.46 mt in Q2 FY14, up 19% against 2.07 mt in the same period last year. During the half year April-September 2013, the company's hot metal production topped 4.92 mt compared to 4.12 mt in the previous corresponding period. Crude steel output went up to 2.3 mt in the quarter under review against 1.92 mt in the previous year. In the half year ended September 2013, Tata Steel said its crude steel output was at 4.51 mt against 3.74 mt last year. Saleable steel output jumped to 2.2mt in Q2 of FY14 against 1.86 mt in the previous corresponding quarter. On a half yearly basis, saleable steel production was up by 21% to 4.35 mt against 3.6 mt in the previous comparable period.
