Tata Steel partners with Hindustan Zinc for sustainable steel manufacturing
Tata Steel and Hindustan Zinc have joined forces. They will use EcoZen, a low-carbon zinc, in steel production. This partnership aims to make steel manufacturing more sustainable. EcoZen uses renewable energy and has a much lower carbon footprint....
HZL's EzoZen solution is produced using renewable energy and has a verified carbon footprint of less than 1 tonne of CO₂ equivalent per tonne of zinc — approximately 75% lower than the global industry average. It enables downstream industries to lower value-chain emissions.
Steel units use zinc in galvanising steel to protect against corrosion and extend service life, making it a crucial component across sectors such as infrastructure, automotive, renewable energy, electronics, and energy storage.
Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc said "EcoZen represents our vision to offer sustainable metal solutions that support the evolving needs of global manufacturing."
"Our partnership with Tata Steel is a significant milestone in scaling up the adoption of low-carbon zinc and reinforcing greener supply chains across India’s industrial ecosystem," he added.
Ranjan Sinha, Chief Procurement Officer of Tata Steel, said "Tata Steel congratulates its strategic partner, Hindustan Zinc, on the delivery of Ecozen (a pioneering environment-friendly Zinc metal) to our Sahibabad plant. This collaboration underscores our shared commitments to sustainable practices and advancing green technologies amongst our supplier eco-system."
Through this collaboration, Hindustan Zinc and Tata Steel aim to support broader sustainability and climate commitments from Scope 3 emissions reduction to climate-aligned procurement frameworks, while advancing India’s transition toward low-carbon, resilient industrial growth, the company said in a regulatory filing.
