Steel companies hike prices

Rising input costs have led major steel producers Tata and Ispat to raise prices of hot-rolled coils by Rs 500-Rs 900.

NEW DELHI: Rising input costs have led major steel producers Tata and Ispat to raise prices of hot-rolled coils by Rs 500-Rs 900.

"We have hiked prices by about Rs 800-900 for HR coils owing to rising input costs," an Ispat official said.

Similarly, a Tata Steel spokesman said the world's cheapest steelmaker has increased spot prices of HR coils by Rs 500-Rs 900.

However, a top JSW Steel official said the company would decide on raising prices on Tuesday.

Though reports say that other producers such as Essar and SAIL too have increased prices, their spokespersons did not confirm the same.
