Steel Authority of India report on titanium plant In Kerala
Steel Authority of India is preparing a techno-economic feasibility report for setting up a titanium based plant in Kollam, Kerala and the work is in its final stage.
A decision regarding the business model for the project will be taken on receipt of the feasibility report.
This is among the projects that was discussed at a meeting between the chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy when he met union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma on Friday. The status and future roadmap for SAIL Steel Complex Limited, a joint venture between SAIL and Kerala government's Steel Complex Limited was also taken up at the meeting.
SAIL and Kerala government have equal shareholdings of 43.8% each in SCL, which has a 50,000 tonnes mill producing continuous cast billets. The two partners now propose to set up a 65,000 tonne per annum rolling mill for TMT bars at Kozikode at an investment of Rs 50 crore. The billets would be used for conversion into TMT Bars and the same would be sold by SAIL for enabling better revenue realization. Additionally, a titanium sponge plant, setting up of rare earth mineral benificiation project in joint venture with NMDC and KIOCL were also discussed in the meeting.
