SAIL to invest in downstream projects

State-run Steel Authority said on Tuesday it plans to invest 5-7 billion rupees ($127-$178 million) in downstream projects to manufacture steel pipes.

NEW DELHI: State-run Steel Authority said on Tuesday it plans to invest 5-7 billion rupees ($127-$178 million) in downstream projects to manufacture steel pipes.

"We are firming up investment for the downstream venture and it could be in the range of 5-7 billion rupees," S.K. Roongta, the firm's chairman told reporters. He said capacity could range from 50,000-100,000 tonnes annually.
