SAIL to hold price line for next 2-3 months
Market leader Steel Authority of India on Tuesday announced not to increase the price of steel products for next two-three months.
Shortly after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's address at a function at its Bokaro Steel Plant, state-owned SAIL said the decision has been taken in view of the anguish expressed by Singh over the rising prices on earlier occasions.
SAIL will stick to its performance and make more steel available to the country, besides taking steps to improve production as well as efficiency, he said.
The Prime Minister today laid the foundation stone of the Rs 6,000-crore expansion and modernisation of Bokaro Steel Plant of SAIL.
SAIL with a production capacity of 14 million has a market share 30 per cent.
Earlier in the day Fiance Minister P Chidambram has charged the steel producers with 'cartel-like behaviour' in Parliament.
