Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has set a target of selling one million tonne of steel through its Dealership Scheme.

KOLKATA: Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has set a target of selling one million tonne of steel through its Dealership Scheme. S S Mohanty, SAIL’s director (technical) who is also in charge as director (commercial) said the company is confident of selling 1 mt of steel through its dealers and urged them to give their best effort to ensure this achievement. Mr Mohanty was speaking at the Annual Dealer’s Award for the company’s outstanding dealers in the Eastern Region recently. Incidentally, SAIL’s Dealership Scheme, which started in 2005 with less than 300 dealers, has presently grown over 3,000 dealers across the country.

Mr Mohanty said the quantity of SAIL-TMT (rebars) and SAIL-JYOTI (galvanised sheets), two prime products sold through SAIL’s retail channel, will be increased very soon with the commissioning of the Wire Rod Mill and the Bar Mill at IISCo. Steel Plant in Burnpur and the new Cold Rolling Mill at Bokaro Steel Plant, respectively.

Commenting on the abysmally low consumption of steel in the rural areas, Mr Mohanty said it was a matter of national concern and it is essential to address the issue. He exhorted dealers to fully tap the potential of the rural market. Speaking on the occasion, Anil Dhawan, executive director (marketing–long products), Central Marketing Organisation, SAIL, urged the dealers to make the most of the presence of SAIL’s steel plants in the eastern region and cash in on the goodwill of the SAIL brand name.
