SAIL golden jubilee committee to meet on Monday

The committee constituted by the government to oversee the preparations of Golden Jubilee celebrations of beginning of production at SAIL plant, would hold its first meeting on Monday.

NEW DELHI: The committee constituted by the government to oversee the preparations of Golden Jubilee celebrations of beginning of production at SAIL plant, would hold its first meeting on Monday. The meeting was earlier scheduled for August 29 but now it would be held on Monday, a top official today told PTI. Government has set up the committee, headed by Minister of State for Steel Jitin Prasada, to prepare a road map for observing the golden jubilee of firing of first furnace in India at a SAIL plant.

"February 2009 will mark the 50 years of firing of first blast furnace in India at Bhilai Steel Plant by Dr Rajendra Prasad, country's first President. It is an important milestone in the history of steel production," the official said. The committee comprises Steel Secretary and other senior officials of the ministry and Steel Authority of India Ltd, he said.

Series of seminars, film shows on steel, promotion of greener technology in steel plants especially PSUs, releasing commemorative postal stamp and coin would form part of golden jubilee celebrations, the official added.
